This unit specifies the outcomes required to operate a slewing mobile crane (up to 20 tonnes) for licensing purposes. It encompasses the requirement for the non-slewing mobile crane licence and the vehicle loading crane licence.
By undertaking this course, participants will gain the skills and knowledge required to obtain a WorkCover Licence. Upon successful completion of learning activities, participants will progress to assessment by a WorkCover assessor for their licensing test. Participants will receive training in the following skills and knowledge areas;
There are no formal pre-requisites for this unit of competency. Candidates must be 18 years and over to participate in this course. Persons wishing to undertake this course need to have the physical capacity to carry out the work safely. Basic literacy and numeracy skills are also required for successful completion. To enter the course, participants must also bring their own whistle, wear steel capped boots, long pants and safety shirt or vest.
Training is a mixture of classroom and practical. Participants must successfully complete written theory and practical demonstration assessments for both the unit and WorkCover to acquire a licence.
The course is delivered over 4 days of face-to-face training and assessment plus 1 day of at home study. It may be delivered either at FHV Training’s fully equipped premises or at the workplace if appropriate.
RPL / RCC (recognition) is available to participants who can provide evidence of competency for the units undertaken. However, participants will still need to undertake the WorkCover assessment process.
Upon successful completion of this unit of competency, you will have the skills and knowledge to work, or gain employment as Mobile Crane Operator. The operator will gain the skills and knowledge to commence a career in the Civil Construction, transport, fabrication or mining industries.
